Welcome To Rewind and Recast

Welcome Movie Fans!

Have you ever thought a movie would be better with a totally different cast? Or have you wondered what a classic movie like The Godfather would have been like with anyone other than Marlon Brando or Al Pacino as the Don Vito and Michael Corleone? If so, you've come to the right place! Welcome to Rewind and Recast where I explore how movie history would've been unwritten, changed, and rewritten with another cast. Some movies that were terrible could've been great and some that were great could've been terrible. This is the answer to all of your "what ifs?"

Finally, please feel free to comment, agree, disagree, debate, and tell me what movies you would like for me to rewind and recast.

Thanks for tuning in,
Lyndsay

  1. Lyndsay,

I have a couple of movies I'd like you to recast.

    1) "The Wizard of Oz" -- I've heard that Judy Garland was a unique talent, and certainly she was a great singer. Who else could have played that role -- and who could have sung "Over the Rainbow" better than she did? Also, the rest of the cast is so closely identified with the movie. Who would you cast?

    2) "Forrest Gump" -- To me, Tom Hanks was perfect in the lead role. Was there a better choice? How about Sally Field as his mother? Or Robin Wright as Jenny? Or Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan? How would you recast that movie?

  2. David,
These are good challenges. I'll be thinking about it and post at least one of those this week. I'm probably going to need to go rent and rewatch The Wizard of Oz. Did you want actors from the 30's/40's or from today? Thanks!

  3. For the Wizard of Oz, the choice is yours. It can be actors from that time period (perhaps you could examine how it might have been different if Buddy Ebsen, the original choice to play the Tin Man, hadn't been forced to withdraw because the makeup made him ill) or you could speculate about who might be in the cast if the film was remade today.

With Forrest Gump, I think you would have to stick with modern-day actors.
